Built by one person who got fed up with how this industry treats people
Coolhouse exists because of a simple, maddening fact: ask for a quote online and your phone number gets sold to five competing firms — then your phone doesn’t stop ringing for a fortnight.
I’m James — I live in Hertfordshire and I run Coolhouse personally. It started with an observation: British summers have changed, fewer than 5% of UK homes have air conditioning, and the whole cluster of upgrades that make a home comfortable and cheap to run — cooling, solar, a battery, an EV charger, often a new fuse board underneath it all — gets sold trade-by-trade, lead-farm-by-lead-farm, with the homeowner treated as a commodity in the middle.
So Coolhouse does it differently, and the difference is structural, not a slogan:
- One installer per job. Ever. Your enquiry is matched to a single vetted installer per trade — never auctioned to five. That’s written into our terms with installers, not just our marketing.
- A person reviews every enquiry. While we build the network, that person is me. Enquiries get read, checked and matched by a human who’s accountable for the result.
- Vetted means something specific. Relevant certification for the trade (F-Gas for air conditioning, MCS for solar and batteries, proper electrical qualifications), public liability insurance, and genuine local coverage — checked before an installer receives a single enquiry.
- The whole job, thought through once. A modern AC unit is a reversible heat pump; a battery is what lets solar run it at night; older homes often need the fuse board sorted first. We help you sequence it, instead of selling you five disconnected leads.
We’re new, we’re small, and we’re building deliberately — starting in St Albans and Hertfordshire, where the installer network is strongest, and expanding as vetted installers come on board. If being early to something built properly appeals to you, we’d love to help with your home.
